Currently I need to make extra boards to handle different viewspoints of the same card, there are plenty of times where a dashboard seems like a better fit, but I feel like the way to filter them is very limited.

In this case I wanted a dashboard summarizing all cards assigned to me, but only in other boards (i.e. "Not On Board: 'MyBoard'"). I feel like adding more of these filters would open up a lot of possibilities, as it now stands dashboards seem to only benefit management.
