Copy or Duplicate a Board

A simple and straight forward, but none the less highly requested feature has finally arrived — You can now make a copy of a board, Including all its contents!
Choose where you want it, and what to bring with you – Cards, comments, automations etc.

Hans Dahlström: I don't think this feature is really Complete as defined by the various requests that have been merged into this one (e.g., Brad, Justin O'Neill, Karlo Eldic). One very important aspect of the merged feature request for us is the ability to create an instance of a board in two locations within the same collection. A common use case for this would be to have a backlog sheet view stay synchronized with a Kanban view such that, when a card is moved in the Kanban, its status is updated in the sheet view. Currently, it seems only possible to create an independent copy of a board and its cards.

Jay Halderman: agreed - we are looking for ability to copy, sure, but separately we need to be able to create a second VIEW of a board in the same collection.

Jay Halderman: The requested status update can be done with the relations feature. More on that you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW35QKTM5iQ

Dovidas Baranauskas: That is a good solution for the use case I mentioned, thanks. BTW- your support agents don't all know this trick.
That said, there are other use cases for allowing an instance of a board to exist in two places in the same collection that Relations does not address, such as different simultaneous synchronized views of the same board.

Dovidas Baranauskas Hans Dahlström: Upon further review, I don't think relations are currently a good solution for showing current status on different boards for us. There are simply to many limitations to this- There are no automations for relations, which affects rolling cards up to a parent card and makes filtering for cards by relation "status" impossible and Advanced Searches for relation "status" very clunky. So, we're back to using automations to set card status to show on multiple boards.
Aside from viewing status, we'd like the flexibility to view the exact same board different ways in the same collection at the same time. I just spent two weeks on a complicated roadmap and I would very much have appreciated being able to view those timelines as 2-week and yearly at the same time instead of constantly zooming in and out and re-finding the location I was working in. There are other times when it would be useful to be able to see and work with the same board in two entirely different views simultaneously in the same collection instead of toggling back and forth.

If all goes well this will be released on Sunday

Hi Brad, could you explain a bit more? If a board is already on the collection, you can not add the same board on a different view. You would need to use the same board and just change the view. Maybe this would be relevant for you? https://favro.canny.io/feature-requests/p/copy-or-duplicate-a-board

Brad
Dovidas Baranauskas: ah yes. As long as we can get the same board on the same collection mirrored (both Kanban and list, at once) that would be perfect.

This is coming soon, will be released together with the new Templates Editor

Merged in a post:
👀 Board Clones (not copies) living in same Collection
Justin O'Neill
It would be useful to clone / mirror a board (not copy) so that it could live in the same collection multiple times while keeping in sync. This would enable you to create a "dashboard" of saved views in one collection (i.e. sheet / kanban / chart / saved views / filters / ect)
Dovidas Baranauskas
We have in plans the Dashboard feature which will allow to gather data from different boards and then present it so that you would have it one board or you can make multiple, hence the data mirroring.
Justin O'Neill
Dovidas Baranauskas: nice! can't wait for that one

Brad
Dovidas Baranauskas: Is this going to enable us to view a board in two different ways (say List and Kanban)? Right now I only seem to be able to show a board one time, and while I can change the view of that board, I would like to see that same board in two different view states at one time.
Dovidas Baranauskas
Brad: The copy option would allow that, but would you want the data to be synced between the boards?
B
Brad
Dovidas Baranauskas: as an option, yes - it would let us create two views of the same board on the same collection. A “mirror” option.
Justin O'Neill
It would also be useful to clone (not copy) a board so that it is can live within the same collection. This would be useful for showing multiple saved views/ filters to create a dashboard (i.e. sheet / kanban / chart / saved views / ect)
