More intuitive user feedback when boards and backlogs are in filter view

There are three kinds of feedback currently being used in the "Show/Hide" and "Toggle filter bar" buttons: Icon, Frame, Colour.
As a user I have on several occasions become confused when looking at a backlog with the Filter bar toggled to on. Even without a filter applied, the Filter bar being on changes the way the cards are rendered - especially parent/child cards.
It would be helpful to have visual feedback in the "Toggle filter bar" button when the filter bar is open (I know, I know, can't you just SEE the bar is open?!), when there is a filter applied and the permutations of those two variables.
With increasing use of parent/child cards, this is going to become more of an issue.
PS. "Show/Hide" feedback is not totally intuitive yet either. What's the difference between something shown and something hidden? Why does the icon change on this button?

Also, in answer to my rhetorical question - on several occasions I (and my less experienced users) have NOT understood that the filter bar being open was impacting what I was looking at, and led to a lot of lost time searching for "lost" cards.
