Need ability to use CUSTOM Status as a Kanban status
in progress
Brian Graham (DadJokes)
This is different than the new relations functionality and its not the same as the request to use a global field as a status.
Right now we have to write a bunch of automations to change global fields. For example... when a status changes on one board, it changes on another, so if both boards are using the same field as a kanban, it would move on both places. This is currently a TON of automations that we have to write over and over to achieve this... This would also make a portfolio report dead simple.
Would love to just be able to change 1 status field that populates everywhere... Can you just enable the ability to use a Custom STATUS field in kanban view?

Setting up automations that change identical global shared and local status fields cause infinite loop when changed too quickly.

We setup automations that will change a board's local status field when update the global shared status field that's setup to be identical to the local status field and visa versa. This is essential to the way we setup our boards, as now every strike team in a project uses the exact same workflow and cards can easily be tracked in multiple boards with almost no change from the developer's perspective.
However, we found that when someone changes a status (either global or local) twice quickly, the slight delay between the automation fires start automatically changing back and forth between two or more of the statuses and this will not stop until the automations are disabled. Most of our boards are running anywhere from 50-80 automations, so this is a tedious task and it's very difficult to identify while it's happening.
Is there any way we can either...
- Allow us to set a shared status field as the status for a board's Kanban columns (This would be an ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER for production at our studio!!!!)
- Reduce the delay time between automations?
- Some way of identifying when an infinite loop is happening and notifying the production team?
- Completely removing the automation limit for Enterprise Accounts?
- Another option entirely?
Thank you so much!

Please allow us to set Shared Status Fields as the default field of a board's Kanban
Travis Kindred
Shared fields have proven to be incredibly useful and necessary for our production needs at our studio. However, since they cannot be set as a board's default status and therefore can't be displayed on the Kanban board, we've had to resort to extremely tedious and elaborate automation setups to get local and shared status fields to work this way. Since setting this up, we've created multiple infinite loops that have capped out our automation limit and ground Favro to a halt on multiple occasions. In addition to this, the Favro support team usually can't reset our automation limit until substantially later, and we end up needing to scramble without automations for the majority of our work day.
I cannot stress enough how absolutely essential the Shared Status Field has become to our workflow, and making them selectable as a default field would allow me to reduce our overall automation use and bug reporting but a substantial amount.

Hi Travis Kindred, we are actually working on a solution that would solve this for you. That is the Shared Main Status, allowing a shared status to be stated in a kanban which can also be used on multiple boards. This will initially allow boards to follow the same workflow and same status, without a need for automation.
This would solve the automation usage and looping. You can follow the feature progress here: https://favro.canny.io/feature-requests/p/need-ability-to-use-custom-status-as-a-kanban-status

Mirror all status changes between two boards

Automation allows for creating a specific status change from one board to another. Being able to have a single box that mirrors all status changes from one board to the other would be great (as in, when Done is set in Board A, set it in Board B, etc. but for a full status list).

Agree, I would love to be able to move the cards across a personal kanban (because there is no kanban view for MyCards) and have them move across their original boards as well.

Hans Dahlström How far away could a feature like this be? I hadn't seen this feature request before but it would solve a real big problem for us.

Sebastian Zethraeus: The feature is coming along, and we are near completion. You can also check the progress on our Public Roadmap when it will be completed. https://favro.com/organization/54f72cf77fb4776c31d006ee/4d9b30ba4d9d7eeff7bbd34e

Dovidas Baranauskas that's Great news! Thank you. Does that mean we can expect them to be available after new years?
Dovidas Baranauskas
Sebastian Zethraeus That is the plan. We are now in the final testing stage and checking if there are no issues or bugs. Follow the public roadmap for more updates and also check out our Discord server, where we will also have an event to showcase the functionality.

Genuinely curious if this is something we can look into. We want to be able to use dashboards to pull information from multiple boards using a specific Custom Status field, but we need the kanban view of those source boards to allow us to use the Custom Status field as the layout. Currently you can choose a regular Status, but not a Custom Status.
