yeah this would be HUGE. the ability to sort by field but i would go a step further and say you would need to give those fields a hierarchy. For example, If you were to create a custom "priority" field labeled:
-CRITICAL
-HIGH
-MEDIUM
-LOW 
I would want to see that in descending or ascending order. wouldn't work with alphabetical sorting
